Permai Village Cafe Vegetarian Delights @ Tanjung Bungah

Sorry for the extra long absence. I'm in university now! Aha. Anyways, time to update this rusty food blog of mine. Went to this quaint little vegetarian place at Tanjung Bungah. Located near Blue Reef Fish and Chips, you shouldn't have a problem finding it. I forgot to take pictures of the main dishes, but I managed to sneak some shots of the wonderful desserts!

First off, the tiramisu. Heaven in a cup, seriously.

Next, the banana trifle. A caffeine-infused dessert loaded with coffee cream, cake, mousse and of course the yummy bananas.

Lastly, the lime jelly. Topped with a dollop of cream on top, this is ideal for those with little space left in their tummies. Sister thought this was very good. But let me tell you, she's a sucker for anything with lime in it. Haha.

Blue Reef Fish & Chips II @ Tanjung Bungah

And we're back to Western food. Part I can be found here

Cream of Vegetable Soup. Little sister who hates vegetables loved this. Oh, the irony.

I love me some salmon. Here it's pictured with some couscous and tomato salsa. First time trying couscous and honestly, it tasted pretty good! The greenish sauce wasn't good though. Tasted odd.

Just look at that chunk of salmon!

Dad shared the seafood platter with little sister. Good choice, you can even choose the type of fish you prefer! Comes with calamari, scallops, prawns and loads of chips. Can easily serve 3 people.

Oh yeah, comes with a salad too. Now that is value for money.

Mom's grilled chicken breast with paprika.

Creme brulee! First time trying this too. Thought it was going to taste like a flan but I was so wrong. You know the creamy custard they put into cream puffs? Imagine that and ice cream mixed together to form something so light yet rich in flavour.

They even torched the top part to give it a shiny layer. Don't worry, it's actually a sugar coating. Crystallised to make it as hard as candy. Awesome.

Home Style Restaurant @ Tanjung Bungah

Quick post for today. This restaurant is located near Blue Reef (which I have blogged about previously here), there's a row of eating places and it's right at the corner so it's not hard to miss. The above is the Braised Tong Bor Pork Ribs with mui-choy and nuts.

Our must have veggie dish - the stir fried french beans with minced meat. I sense a little deja vu here. Oh yeah, we ordered this at XuanXin before! Home Style's version is quite similar, fragrant and crunchy.

And lastly we have the fish meat with yam. Now this I particularly LOVED. The fish was fresh, not to mention the amazing texture of the yam slices! Whole family enjoyed this one.

Ordered soup as well but forgot to take a picture. My bad. Anyway, great place if you're looking for good Chinese 'home style' food.

Blue Reef Fish & Chips @ Tanjung Bungah

Disclaimer : I know this is really, really late. No worries though, I have tons of photos to make up for the delay!

This mother's day, we didn't really think of where to eat because it felt just like any other weekend. It's either somewhere nearby or that Taiwanese place Dad loves so much. Well, familiarity does breed contempt. Too much of a good thing may turn into a bad thing. Ah, such cliche(d) lines, yet still undeniably true.

So we decided to try out the new place, Blue Reef. (Not so new, apparently, after Googling the place) Tucked away within the Casa Permai housing area, the place would seem as if it's out of place. I mean, hidden from the main road, surrounded by houses? There are a handful of other restaurants next door, but the location still seemed a little odd.
Boy, was I wrong about that. The entire place was fully booked for the night, even though we reached at 6.30! First thought : The food must be fantastic. So we insisted on waiting for one of the previous tables to leave. Yes, we were that curious about the food to endure the half hour wait.

And it was SO worth it.

Seafood chowder. Quite tasty, the breadstick definitely helped too!

7-Up float; bubbly.

Grilled fish (forgot the fish! sorry) on a bed of mashed potatoes;
loved the mash as there were bits of pickled gherkins

Heart shaped capsicums!

Their specialty - fish and chips. You can have it beer battered,

Or with breadcrumbs. Both are equally enjoyable.

As for our last thought? The food IS fantastic!

Ice ice baby.

Ice kacang is officially my comfort food. One slurp of the sinfully sweet icy syrup and I’m on a high.

The one pictured below’s from the hillside hawker centre. The stall’s easy to find, what with its multicoloured lights hanging around the sign. It’s also the only stall selling ice kacang there. I used to go there since I was a kid, but I still don’t get tired returning to the same stall every time. Other places just don’t cut it. Not even close.

Their cendol’s not bad too. That’s my mom’s comfort food. Heh.033

Karaikudi

Is it me or do I have an unusual craving for Indian food every weekend? Good thing this place was open as Thaipusam was just yesterday.
Located at the Tg Bungah area, Karaikudi has always been one of my favourite Indian restaurants.  It’s nearby, reasonably priced and of course, there’s great food.
I had my all time fave, the onion rawa thosai. As always, the thosai came hot and crisp to the very last bite, with tons of garlic, onion and carrot bits hidden within.  Mom and sis had their favourite, the roti canai. I shall just quote my mom, “this is the best roti canai I’ve ever had'”.
And I’m telling you, for someone who can’t resist roti canai, when my mom says something like that, she means it.
For our veggie fix, we ordered their specialty, the Vegetable Jalfrize (pronounced Jal-frai-z) (we being dungu ordering it for the first time pronounced it wrongly :P) Good stuff. Almost like Aloo Gobi but much better as it has so many other vegetables in there, like capsicums, long beans, brinjal and carrots.
If you love Indian food or think you might like Indian food but have yet to try it, Karaikudi’s definitely the place for you.
