Drinks @ Kim Gary, Gurney Plaza

New drinks menu. We were the first to try them! Well, at least I think so after all the questions the staff asked us later. About the drinks, I mean. Mom had the roasted milk tea with grass jelly above.

I had the matcha green milk tea with red bean. Really good, this one.

And my sister had the passionfruit tea. She said this was okay, and that means great in sister language.

Kim Gary Cafe @ Gurney Plaza

I've blogged about this place before, so I'll just keep the photo post short and simple.

Fish Fillet Burger in Macau Style.

Tomato and egg sandwich.

I always order this. Red bean lover on the loose.

XuanXin Ramen Kitchen @ Gurney Plaza

XuanXin just opened a new restaurant in Gurney Plaza, which specialises in: you've guessed it, RAMEN.

And there's a whole lot of choices which you get to pick from.
You can have the soupy ramen, like my sister's pick above with pork.

Or if you're more of a fish person, there's always the fish belly to complement your ramen.

By the way, the soup is surprisingly tasty! Just like your favourite Maggi soup noodles.

And then you have your stir fried ramen.

Accompanied by whichever meat takes your fancy.
Trust me, they have everyone's choice considered in the menu.

And oh yeah, they have affordable sets which are specially created for 2,3 or 4 persons. Each set comes with any choice of ramen, drinks and a side dish. I did the math, you save about 10 dollars with the sets so just go for it.

Kim Gary II @ Gurney Plaza

Remember this? So this would be my second blog post of the place.
Come on, the whole family agrees the food is good!

This time, less talk more pictures. Above was the free hotdog we redeemed. You see, my mom signed up for the Kim Gary card so every month you get something free. It's not some cheapo free dessert or something, they actually serve you food which is not even on the menu! Cool, huh?

Right, more pictures and less talking.

Mine. Cheese baked fish fillet with pasta.

Came with pineapples, potatoes, onions, egg and loads of yummy cheese.

Dad's. Seafood baked rice. With mussels, and..
Can't figure out what's beneath all that cheese. He finished everything though. Good sign!

Mom's Nissin noodle with sliced pork.

Now this is the cheapo free dessert. Ha.

XuanXin @ Gurney Plaza

Okay, I'm not a big fan of Chinese food, to be honest. But once in a while, the family (more of the parents) would decide to have a proper Chinese meal. So we the children would unwillingly reciprocate. Majority doesn't always win, figures. There are quite a lot of places here in Penang that offer traditional home cooked food aka 'JOO CHAR', but none of them are located in shopping centres. Except this one. I mean, what a great way to increase clientele by opening in a mall? Eat first, shop later. Or vice versa. Brilliant.

The restaurant is located in the new wing, highest floor. Quite a large area with many tables and even two private rooms. Very high tech too, you can call the waiter for that extra napkin or request for more water at the touch of a button. Plus, it keeps the kids happy. "Ooh I wanna press the button!"

Here's a look at the food we ordered.
Claypot tofu. With carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, the usual.

Sweet and sour pork.

Stir-fried long beans. I swear I saw this on EVERY table.

My favourite, the fish with celery, mushrooms and preserved vegetables. Doesn't exactly sound appetising, but it tastes awesome.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm no Chinese food lover, but this place is definitely worth the second trip. :)

Taiwanese Food @ Gurney Plaza

My family has a thing for Taiwanese food. Seriously. Whenever we can’t make a decision on where to eat, we always end up having Taiwanese. Our usual place is at Prima Tanjung, a small eatery called Taipei Food Avenue. That was before we found this new place, located at the Gurney Plaza basement. Easy to spot, as it’s next to Siam Express, and its decor is definitely eye catching. Purple? Chandeliers? Yep, that’s the one.

Ordered the seafood noodles (as pictured above) for myself. Not bad, they use UDON noodles, fish balls, fish meat, the usual yong tau foo stuff. Very filling.

034

I like that they serve it ‘steamboat’ style. You get your very own complimentary facial while you eat.

037

And here’s what the rest of my family ordered (yes, everyone had the same thing) They all opted for the set meal, which as you can see above, consists of a main dish (they had the pork chop/chicken chop), rice, veg, soup, dessert and a drink. Extremely value for money.

038

Ooh. Gives KFC a run for their money.

Closeup of the rice.

Overall, 4/5

(-1 cause they don’t have my favourite Snowaye)

Kim Gary @ Gurney Plaza, Penang

This is probably one of our favourite places in Gurney.
The food is good and affordable, especially if you have one of those VIP cards. 10% discounts every time! :) Besides, the service is always fast and dependable. One minute you tell the waiter you want something, and before you know it, it's right there on your table.
My whole family loves it.

Fries - Special Mix flavour.
Sister always orders this. Otherwise she'll be throwing one of her tantrums. :S

Mom's rice. Forgot what it's called.
But I know there's grilled chicken and some mix vegetables.
She seems to enjoy it a lot :)

My other sister ordered the baked rice with cheese.
Looked and smelled awesome when it arrived.
As for what's inside,
BTW it came with some grilled chicken wings.

And this was mine. Baked spaghetti in red and white sauce with fish.
Loved the way they fried the fish in egg.
It's sort of like an omelette with fish, but with more fish, less egg. Heh.

Out and About.

Above: Winter Warmers at Gurney. Had the afternoon tea set, complete with your very own choice of tea (mine was jasmine). Affordable and quite worth it, considering you get scones, sandwiches, cakes plus ohsolovely cookies! All looking pretty on a three tiered tray. Tastewise, it’s not that bad, if you’re not that fussy an eater. 3/5
Clockwise from left: Salad with chicken breast strips, orange slices and lemon/orangey dressing (light and tangy, not as ‘jelak’ as the caesar), fettucine with salmon in cream sauce (loved this one), chicken sandwich (bread was a little hard, though no complaints about the tender chicken).
Above: TGIF at Queensbay. Braved the infamous weekend jam to get here, though I must say the long drive was worth it. Great meal, with wonderful service to boot (thanks JM!) The food’s your typical american fare, with ginormous portions, so I highly recommend sharing if you’re not a big eater. The best for me was definitely the fettucine. Salmon + fettucine = One happy girl. 4/5
Above: Crepe Cottage along Gurney Drive. A quaint little cottage (literally, it’s not just the name) in the midst of the very busy Gurney area which offers the french delicacy. Who would’ve known? Taking your pick would take a while, as the menu offers a wide variety of crepes, both savoury and sweet. The only drawback was that it took a darn long time for the food to arrive. You could’ve seen the hearts above our heads disappearing ala Diner Dash. That aside, all of us agreed that the food was good, making up for the long wait. 3.5/5
